Dodging the deer.

It's been hot the last few days and really we should be thinking about leaving the dogs to get fat laying the sun till autumn, after talking to Pete though we decided to have a hunt this morning in behind his house.

We meet up the creek a bit around day break, I was only wearing a thin shirt at 6am thinking it's going to get hot quick today, we were walking into an area loaded with deer but as it was windy and right up our ass, I thought we may be ok, the deer don't like the wind much or the smell of the great unwashed.

We had Ming, also Puk (the holder), Jude&Chi (9 month olds) and Pete's one eyed dog Zack (Jude&Chi's father) plus Hank, Jude&Chi's brother, Ming, Zack & Jude on the find and they were off down wind stopping around 600meters away, something was up, so me and Pete began to sidle eventually me leaving Pete, then climbing after what looked like dogs running in all directions, no barking was heard initially with the wind up our ass, then finally some barking, sounded like Zack had a bail going up the gully, funny as my dogs were 400m down wind from there, a bird in the hand as they say, so I let Puk go and she bolted along with Chi the pup, up I climbed the bailing continued but it seemed they were moving around a bit then Chi my pup arrive back at my feet no Puk tho, we kept climbing to the bail which was off and on now, finally I was there about or so I thought, I walked into the scrub where the barking was coming from and Zack walked out with his tail wagging, I'm thinking have they got a bloody billy goat in there or what, I couldn't find it anyway then Zack disappeared then more bailing and then Puk turned up what was going, I sent her away Chi followed and then a scrap started around the face in a basin, this was more promising, I was hot and tired when I caught up with them around in the native, yes it was a pig all right a fat boar was giving them a hard time Zack & Puk trying to hold it but being flung around chi standing off barking, I loaded the gun thinking I might have to shoot this pig, then with them sensing I was close they gave it another go, holding him this time, I saw my chance and slipped in grabbing a front leg, this pig was strong and not going to lay down easy, but to late I was committed and had to hang in there, the pig was getting some traction with his back legs and Puk was hanging off his nose dragging him down hill I tried to cal Puk off but she just keep pulling I hung in there and managed to get one of his back legs off the ground as well still he wasn't giving in,  I managed to get a hand free to get the knife out and slid it in, finally some blood.

Quick inspection of the dogs Puk was lucky nothing serious, skipped around into the next gully and call the other dogs in seems whatever they were on had given them the slip, Pete arrived then we dragging him down the hill he tipped the scales at 125lb the meat being nice and fat.

Zack with the Fat Boar.
